Our trainer, Mike Murphy, was involved in the original clinical research program in Canniesburn Hospital, Glasgow for the scar-free removal of tattoos by laser. He then worked on the application of pulsed dye lasers and the treatment of vascular problems such as port wine stains, haemangiomas, thread veins and other blood vessel abnormalities. His company, DermaLase, was the world’s first to offer the Q-switched ruby laser for tattoo removal on a commercial basis. In the early 1990s he began work with the inventor on the Intense Pulsed Light device and introduced the world’s first beauty system, the Plasmalite, in the UK market in 1999. He also opened the first IPL clinic in Scotland in that same year. Mike is uniquely qualified thanks to his research background, his clinics and his understanding of the beauty/aesthetic business. He is not just a ‘laser expert’ or a ‘techie’ – he actually knows what he’s talking about!
